Need an MC with charisma, charm and a poor command of French pronunciation? I’m your man.

Having spent years behind a microphone on Backbeat and Kiwi FM, acted in a few Kiwi feature films, become a Marriage Celebrant and MCed countless weddings (I never seem to make the cut as a groomsman), spinning a yarn is, as the French say, my compétence.

Over the years I’ve hosted everything from weddings and fundraisers to sporting events, film Q&As and community events. Highlights include the Hautapu Rugby Club fundraiser Miss Hautapu (if you can run that event, you can run anything), the Oceania Kenpo 5.0 Championship, a Brian Wellington Hospice Waikato fundraiser, Leamington Rugby Club 7s and the St Peter’s Cambridge Parents' Association fundraiser.

I’m also a big lover of my hometown, Cambridge, and have had the honour of MCing a number of local events for the Cambridge Chamber of Commerce, including Illuminate Light and Sound Show at Lake Karapiro, Balloons Over Waipā and the Chamber of Commerce Long Lunch.

As an active part of the Waikato film community, I’ve also MCed film events including the Raglan Film Festival Awards and Q&As for Waikato Screen with stars of TVNZ’s The Gone and New Zealand comedian and media personality Tom Sainsbury.

And then there are the quizzes.

I’ve been hosting pub and event quizzes around the Waikato for more than 11 years, which has taught me a surprising amount about running a room: get people involved, make sure everyone knows what’s going on, keep things moving and, most importantly, make people feel welcome and comfortable.

That’s pretty much my approach to MCing anything. I’ll keep things running on time, make sure everyone knows what’s happening, have a laugh where appropriate and make sure your event feels like an event, rather than a series of people awkwardly waiting to find out what happens next.
